Description

A daguerreotype with unhinged case and velvet interior(a) , image of a unidentified girl (b) ca. 1850s. The young girl appears to be between 6-10 years old. Her hair is styled in an updo, possibly wrapped in a hair net at the back. She wears an off-the-shoulder dress with bell shaped sleeves. The dress is made of silk with a gingham patter, dropped waistline, velvet trimmed stripping across her chest. The young girl's cheeks have been tinted with a pink color and wears earrings. The case is made of wood with the left half made with a red velvet interior. The right portion that houses the image is loose from its counterpart. The object is in fair condition with loss of wood layers, loose part, and darkened image.
