Description

A draft letter from John H. Temple to A.G. Hinckley, 5 August 1914. The missive concerned Temple's statement that, regarding a claim for Alcatraz Island, granted by Gov. Pío Pico to William Workman in June 1846 and then transferred to Temple's father, F.P.F., but for which an IOU from John C. Frémont was disallowed by the federal government, which took possession of the island, Hinckley's power of attorney was revoked. The original text of March was crossed out and a short note of revocation was added on 11 August. An envelope addressed to Hinckley was not stamped or postmarked, suggesting this copy was retained for Temple's files. With folds, creases and light soiling, the letter is in good condition, while the envelope has heavy creases, stains, tears, and acid burning and is in fair shape.
