Description

A draft of a contract between Walter P. Temple and Joseph F. Mullender, November 1917. This instrument proposed to take over the lease that Temple signed with Standard Oil Company so that Mullender would have ten years with a further ten-year option to sell crude from the Temple lease at Montebello and process it at ten cents higher per barrel than Standard. Mullender's wife, Rosebud Doble, was a granddaughter of Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin, from whose estate Temple bought the land on which the oil was found, thirty-five years after Baldwin acquired it by foreclosure on Temple's father.
