Description
A drilling log for Baldwin oil well No. C-1, Puente field, ca. 1920s. The long, thin paper log on graph paper documents the progress of the well as it was dug from surface level to 4,297 feet to date. A pictoriaal representation at left and abbreviated notes at right document the substances (shale, sand, boulders, conglomerate, and the like) found at each level. Areas underlined in pink indicate some oil presence, though there is no indication of substantial oil on the log. With many angled folds and some light soiling and wear, the condition is good.
