Description

A photo album ca. 1880. The cover consists of a painted, decorative embossed oval on the front and a diamond engraved pattern on the back. It is made of paper treated to imitate leather. There is one half of a brass enclosure to the right, with the bottom clasp missing. Inside are gilt edged matted frames with different sized openings for tintypes, carte-de-visites and cabinet cards. Frames are oval, rectangular shaped with a decorative border and slot at the bottom to insert photographs. The item belonged to Minnie Blanche Decker, as inscribed in pencil on the inside. The item is in fair condition. Some frames are torn at the slotted opening. There is moderate foxing, acid burn and staining to the pages throughout. The cover is highly abraded along the edges and the bottom headband of the spine is unraveling. The joint is torn at the top front. The enclosure is attached only on the bottom with one pin.
