Description

A fire from an explosion at the Olinda oil field, Brea, California, ca. 1920s. The image is taken from a field off at a distance and shows smoke rising from at or near a tin building set amidst oil derricks, tanks and other structures. There are bystanders and automobiles close to the scne and more bystanders closer to the photographer. The location appears to be at the west end of the field because the hills are in the distance toward the Carbon Canyon area and, further off, the Santa Ana Mountains. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Explosion at Gasoline plant at top of Hall's Hill." With some light soiling and light edge rubbing, the condition is good.
