Description

A gunpowder flask, ca. 1860s. The body is fluted and made of copper, while there is a brass opening at the end of the neck, though the pivoting cap to distribute the desired amount of powder is missing. Wrapped around the end of the neck which is a few inches of paper and tied and knotted at this location is thin red rope for carrying the flask. There is no obvious maker's mark, but the American Flask and Cap Company (see item .10) made similar flasks. With tarnishing and dents to the body, cracking and holes to the paper and wear on the rope, the condition is fair.
