A gunpower bag(a) and a loose strap (b) ca. 1860s. The gunpowder bag (a) is mostly of stitched leather with a belt on one end (part of the belt is loose) and the spring-loaded pivoting cap for dispensing powder at the other with the numbers of "1 1/4" and "1 1/2" for distributing the right amount for the weapon. On the cap is embossed "AM Flask and Cap Company," likely the American Flask and Cap Company of Waterbury, CT and which operated from 1857-1865 A leather fragment (b) near the cap was where the loose belt piece attached. The leather is dry and cracked and the brass tarnished, with the condition fair.
