A lease document from Francis W. and John H. Temple to Simon Ortega, 16 December 1882. The item concerns the lease for $2,000 for one year of all of the 50-acre Temple Homestead, excepting the family houses and all buildings, excepting an apple house used by Ortega, on three acres. Half the money was to be delivered when the lease was executed and the remainder on gathering of the grape crop. Antonia Margarita Workman de Temple and her family and household were also to have any fruit grown on the Homestead for family use. Ortega also agreed to properly prune the grapevines and fruit trees. Francis acted as guardian of his minor brothers Walter and Charles, while John acted as guardian of his minor sister, Maggie, in the transaction. The document was signed by the Temple brothers, their mother and Ortega with John H. Temple as witness. With some stains, soiling, folds, acid shadowing, and dog-eared corners, the condition is good.Lexicon
