Description
A letter (a) and envelope (b) from Charles S. Wright to Peter Beggett (?), 31 July 1864. The letter is addressed from Los Angeles and refers to Wright, a Union Army private, being stationed there, though he would actually have been stationed at Camp Drum at Wilmington. Online records show Wright with a regimental company of California Volunteers stationed there and at a fort near present Needles, California along the Colorado River. Indeed, the letter refers to copper mining claims Wright had (and was offering Beggett to join) in that area. There is also reference to a fellow soldier's brother killed in a major engagement in the east. The yellow envelope has the address, stamp and postmark and is in fair condition. With some light soiling and a few creases, the letter is in good condition.
