Description
A letter (a) and envelope (b) from Edwin Rhodes to W. J. Schaeffer, 5 December 1891. On the letterhead of the Chino Valley Champion newspaper, the missive asks Schaeffer to send statistics on his sugar beet crop, including expenses, to print in the newspaper, of which Rhodes was editor. The envelope has the newspaper's and Rhodes' name and location. Schaeffer was one of the farmers contracted with Chino founder Richard Gird's sugar beet factory and there is a street in the town named for him. Rhodes, who has a school named for him in Chino, was the first editor of the newspaper, which is still published. With original folds, some yellowing and minor soiling to the letter and soiling, stains and the side opening tear to the envelope, the overall condition is good.
