Description

A letter (a) and envelope (b) from Nettie Friend de Temple to Laura Gonzalez, 5 November 1894. The missive, from the widow of Thomas W. Temple, is to Laura (Lorenza) and "Pancha," likely Francisca Valenzuela, Laura's birth mother, and is addressed to Laura at Boyle Heights. Signing herself as Josefina (Josephine), Nettie called the two her best friends and wished not to always write when in financial need, while telling them they would like San Francisco. She reiterated that Walter and Charles Temple did not like her, but asked if they would send her ten dollars or what they could for the sake of their late brother and her husband, Thomas, to get to her mother's (Nettie once lived in San Mateo County). She also requested photos from Magarita Temple Rowland and Anita Davoust Temple, her other sisters-in-law as well as from Laura and Francisca. With folds, some creases, some major stains, and light soiling, the condition is fair.
