Description
A letter (a) and envelope (b) from William W. Temple to Elias J. Baldwin, 12 November 1880. The letter is a copy made by Temple and sent to his brother Francis for an original penned at the Presidio in San Francisco where Temple had recently joined the Army. The missive came from a visit from William W. Jenkins (see other items from this accession concerning him) and included Temple's views on Baldwin's promises to sell the family homesteads to them after he assumed large properties from his 1879 foreclosure on the Temple and Workman bank loan, the actions of his mother, Antonia Margarita Workman de Temple, and his abandoning any interest in the properties. The letter has a few small stains, a creased corner and some light soiling and is in good condition, while the envelope has more stains, pest damage and soiling and is in fair condition.
