Description
A letter from Volney E. Howard to William Workman,15 July 1854. The missive, written from San Francisco, concerns the attorney's agreement to represent Workman and Aaron Pollard (see item 12) in the land claim for the lands of the Mission San Gabriel, granted to Reid and Workman by Governor Pio Pico in June 1846. The claim was rejected by the United States Supreme Court in April 1864 on the grounds that Pico had no authority to make the grant.
