Description

A letter from an unknown author of Edwin G. Hart to Chas T. Connell in Los Angeles, California. 19 December 1913. A typed, 2 page letter responding to Chas T. Connell's letter (object number 2017.41.1.277), requesting information on North Whittier Heights. The author is mailing a descriptive folder under a separate cover letter. This will include a map of the subdivided tracts, a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the property, as well as articles on the soil, water, and climatic conditions. There are young lemon groves which have been divided into 5 and 10 acre tracts and cost $750 to $975 an acre. There is also land that was planted to Valencia and navel oranges as well as grapefruit which are being sold for $875 to $975 an acre. Terms are 1/5 cash, 1/5 in 2 years and the balance in 5 years. Unplanted land, which the company will plant for a fee, costs $450 to $800 an acre. They have sold about $300,000 of property, mostly to successful orchardists and nurserymen. The owners plan to raise the cost of land in February, so now is the best time to buy. The author closes the letter by offering to take Mr. Connell out to the property. The pages (a and b) have been glued together along the top, small tears on the right side, and discoloration on the top, bottom and right side. This object is in good condition overall.
