Description

A letter from an unknown author of the Whittier Extension Company in Los Angeles, California to H.S. Hunsberger in Riverside, California. 14 October 1913. A typed, 2 page letter following up on a visit from H.S. Hunsberger. During this visit Mr. Hunsberger requested information on North Whittier Heights, which the Whittier Extension Company is mailing today under a different cover. The descriptive folder will have a map of the subdivided tracts, a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the property, as well as articles on the soil, water, location, climatic conditions and improvements that are being made. There are about 1300 acres that have been subdivided into 5 to 50 acre tracts and cost between $500 and $900 per acre with cheaper lands needing more leveling before trees could be planted. The owners of the property have also planted many acres of Valencia Oranges, Eureka Lemons, grapefruits and navels. These young orchards are subdivided and sold in tracts of 5 acres and up. These young groves will cost an additional $175 an acre. The Whittier Extension Company will also contract for the care of the young orchards at a small cost. They have sold over $175,000 worth of property, mostly to local and successful citrus men, which they believe speaks on the merit of the property. The author closes the letter with hopes that Mr. Hunsberger will set up an appointment to go see the property. The pages have been glued together along the top. Page 1 (a) also has an acid burn along the top, fold in the bottom left corner, and water damage on the right side. Page 2(b) has a brown spot, possibly from water damage, on the bottom right. This object is in good condition overall.
