Description

A letter from an unknown author of the Whittier Extension Company to D.P. Holsinger in Lordsburg, California. 14 January 1914. A typed, 2 page draft letter in response to a request for a descriptive folder of North Whittier Heights orange and lemon land subdivisions. The author is mailing a descriptive folder under a separate cover letter. This will include a map of the tracts as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the property , as well as articles on the soil, water, and climatic conditions of the property. The property is subdivided into tracts of 2 to 50 acres. Unplanted lands cost $400 to $800 per acre. Also, a large number of acres have been planted to Eureka Lemons, Valencia Oranges, and Marsh Seedless Grapefruits. These orchards are being sold in tracts of 5 to 20 acres and cost $750 and $1025 an acre. The owners plan on raising the cost of these planted lands on the 1st of February, making now a good time to buy. Some of the most successful orange and lemon growers and nurserymen are buying in North Whittier Heights, which proves they have the conditions necessary for developing groves that pay. The owners are putting on the market a modern townsite as well as a road connecting Whittier and Pomona Boulevard. These improvements as well as fruit production will increase the values of the property. The author closes the letter by inviting Mr. Holsinger out to see the property. There are several corrections and paragraphs crossed out. The two pages are glued together along the top, have holes in the top left corner from a straight pin, and discoloration on the right side. Page 1 (a) also has a crease along the top from being folded. Page 2 (b) has no other damage. This object is in good condition overall.
