Description

A letter from an unknown author of the Whittier Extension Company to E.C. Day in Paso Robles, California. 1 December 1913. A typed, 2 page letter where the author is responding to a letter from E.C. Day (object number 2017.41.1.258) which requested a descriptive folder of the North Whittier Heights subdivision. The folder is being mailed under a different cover and will include a map of the tracts as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the property, as well as articles on the conditions of the property. The cost of land is $700 to $735 an acre for flat land and $500 to $650 an acre for rolling lands. Terms of sale are 1/5 cash, 1/5 in 2 years and the balance in 5 years. The author has a friend who has been investigating the ability to grow tobacco in California and has a farm in the Hollywood Foothills and Puente Foothills. The author will be happy to get his friend to contact Mr. Day when Mr. Day is in the Los Angeles area. According to the author, some of the most successful orchardists in the state have invested in North Whittier Heights, which should speak for itself. He then closes the letter by inviting to take Mr. Day out to the property. The pages are glued together in the top left corner. Page 1 (a) also has a piece missing in the bottom right corner, a crease in the bottom left coner, possible past damage along the bottom, and discoloration on all sides. Page 2 (b) also has discoloration on the right side and bottom, and an acid burn on the back at the bottom. This object is in good condition overall.
