Description

A letter from an unknown author to A.F. Rice in Huntington Beach, California. 12 May 1914. A typed, 2 page letter in response to a letter (object number 2017.41.1.1473) requesting information on North Whittier Heights. A folder will be mailed under a separate cover letter. This will include a map of the property as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the property, as well articles on the soil, water, and climatic conditions. Unplanted land has been divided into tracts of 2 to 50 acres and cost $400 to $800 per acre. Some of the land has been planted to Valencia Oranges, Eureka Lemons and Marsh Grapefruit. This land has been divided into tracts of 5, 10, 15, and 20 acres and costs $750 to $1025 per acre. Also, about 150 acres have been planted to walnuts. This land is being sold for $700 to $850 per acre. With the completion of Turnbull Canyon Road and the expected modern townsite, the demand for and value of North Whittier Heights will increase. Some of the most successful citrus growers and nurserymen have invested in the property which shows they have "groves that pay." The author then lists people who have bought in North Whittier Heights and invites A.F. Rice to contact these people to learn of the merit of the land and reliability of the owners and agents. The author closes the letter be inviting Mr. Rice out to the property. There is also a post script informing Mr. Rice that they do not own or sell for La Fortuna Farms, but understands that the land is being sold for $450 to $700 an acre and is good for alfalfa, deciduous fruits, walnuts, or vegetables. The pages have been glued together in the top left corner and there is discoloration on all sides. This object is in good condition overall.
