A letter from an unknown author to B. Cartrite in Pasadena, California. 4 May 1914.
A typed, 2 page letter draft in response to a postcard (object number 2017.41.1.468) requesting information on North Whittier Heights. A descriptive folder is being mailed under a separate cover. This will include a map of the tracts as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the property, as well as articles on the soil, water and climatic conditions of the holdings. Unplanted land is divided into tracts of 2 to 50 acres and is being sold for $400 to $800 an acre. Some land has been planted to Valencia Oranges, Eureka Lemons, and Marsh Grapefruit. This land has been divided into tracts of 5, 10, 15, or 20 acres and is being sold at $750 to $1025 per acre. Also, 150 acres have been planted to walnuts and are being sold for $700 to $850 an acre. Soon a modern townsite will be constructed and subdivided and Turnbull Canyon Road will be completed. This will increase the value and demand for property in North Whittier Heights. Some of the most successful growers and nurserymen have invested at North Whittier Heights, which shows that they have the land for growing "citrus groves that pay." The author then lists people who have bought in North Whittier Heights and offers for B. Cartrite to contact them regarding the merit of the property and reliability of the owners and agents. The author closes the letter by inviting Mr. Cartrite out to see the property should he be interested in investing in their property.
There are notes in pencil throughout the letter.
Both pages are glued together in the top left corner. The first page has folds and creases on the bottom left corner, a fold of the bottom right corner, a heavy crease from being folded across the top, an acid burn on the left side, tears and embrittlement along the bottom, and discoloration on all edges. Page 2 has folds in the bottom corners, tears and a piece missing from the bottom, discoloration on the top and right side, and early signs of foxing on the left side. This object is in poor condition overall.Lexicon
