Description
A letter from an unknown author to C.H. Webster in Hibbing, Minnesota. 21 August 1918. A three page, typed document. The author confirms that Mr. Webster's earlier letter regarding his desire to purchase a 5 acre orange grove in Southern California (Object ID: 2017.41.1.1511) has been received. Since Mr. Webster asked about how the Fontana and North Whittier Heights districts compare in regard to Valencia orange cultivation, the author addresses some of his concerns and argues that multiple aspects of the North Whittier Heights property make it the superior option. The author discusses water and soil conditions in both districts along with the matter of fumigation, and explains that there are North Whittier Heights lands available from $300 to $800 per acre; however, only a portion of the $300 per acre lands are suitable for orchards. The author goes on to discuss the costs associated with planting a property as well as the returns from navel and Valencia oranges. The author encourages Mr. Webster to come and see the North Whittier Heights property when he travels to Southern California. With adhesive in the top left corner which is holding the document together; moderate and minor acid burns; minor silverfish damage; and minor foxing, the object is in good to fair condition overall.
