A letter from an unknown author to Carlos A. Bell in San Antonio, Texas. 28 May 1914.
A typed, 2 page letter in response to a postcard (object number 2017.41.1.514) requesting information on North Whittier Heights. A descriptive folder will be mailed under a separate cover letter. This folder will incluse a map of the tract as subdivided, a map of Southern California, which shows the exact location of the property, as well as articles on the soil, water and climatic conditions of the holdings. Unplanted land has been divided into tracts of 2 to 50 acres and cost $400 to $800 an acre. Several acres have been planted to Eureka Lemons, Valencia Oranges and Marsh Grapefruit. This land has been divided into tracts of 5, 10, 15, and 20 acres and costs $750 to $1025 an acre. Also, 150 acres have been planted to walnuts. This land costs $700 to $850 an acre. With the completion of Turnbull Canyon Road and the building of a modern townsite, the value and demand for land will only increase. Some of the most successful citrus growers and nurserymen have invested in North Whittier Heights, showing they have the location for growing "citrus groves that pay." The author then lists people who have bought land at North Whittier Heights and invites Carlos Bell to contact them regarding the merit of the land as well as the reliability of the owners and agents. The author closes by offering to take Mr. Bell out to the property in and when he comes to Los Angeles.
The pages have been glued together in the top left corner, a tear and embrittlement of the bottom right corner, and discoloration on all edges. This object is in good condition overall.Lexicon
