Description

A letter from an unknown author to David Fairchild at the Department of Foreign Seed & Plant Introduction, in Washington, D.C. 18 July 1918. The abbreviation "GTR:G" near the signature line most likely refers to Grover T. Russell, who was the recipient of an earlier letter from Mr. Fairchild (Object ID: 2017.41.1.1466). Additional text refers to the "Sales Manager for North Whittier Heights." The author confirms that Mr. Fairchild's letter has been received and that he would like to receive the 20 avocado seedlings which Mr. Fairchild offered to him. The author states that he will plant the seedlings and try to cultivate them. The author explains that growers in Southern California have a reliable supply of Mexican thin-skin avocado seedlings and should therefore have no issues maintaining their nurseries. The author asks for Mr. Fairchild to send the seedlings to the Puente post office and thanks him for offering up the plants. With moderate acid burns and minor foxing, the object is in good condition overall.
