Description

A letter from an unknown author to E.G. Hoyt in San Francisco, California. 11 May 1914. A typed, 2 page letter draft, responding to a postcard (object number 2017.41.1.491) requesting information on North Whittier Heights. A folder will be mailed under a separate cover letter. This folder will include a map of the tracts as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the location of the property, as well as articles on the soil, water, and climatic conditions. Unplanted land has been divided into 2 to 50 acre tracts and cost $400 to $800 per acre. Some land has been planted to Valencia Oranges, Eureka Lemons and Marsh Grapefruit, these lands have been divided into 5, 10, 15, and 20 acre plots and are being sold for $750 to $1025 per acre. Also, about 150 acres have been planted to walnuts. This land is being sold for $700 to $850 an acre. With the completion of a road through Turnbull Canyon and a modern townsite, the value and demand for land in North Whittier Heights will increase. Some of the most successful growers and nurserymen have invested in North Whittier Heights which shows they have land necessary for growing "citrus groves that pay." The author then lists people who have bought in North Whittier Heights and invites E.G. Hoyt to write them to find out the merit of the land as well as the reliability of the owners and agents. The author closes by inviting Mr. Hoyt out to see the property when he comes to the Los Angeles area. The pages are glued together in the top left corner and there is discoloration on all sides. This object is in good condition overall.
