A letter from an unknown author to E.J. Tomlinson in Aromas, California. 17 March 1914.
A typed, 2 page letter in response to a letter (object number 2017.41.1.391) requesting information on the North Whittier Heights subdivision. The author will send a descriptive folder under a separate cover letter. The folder will include a map of the tracts as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the property, as well as articles on the soil, water and climatic conditions of the area. Unplanted land has been divided into tracts of 2 to 50 acres and cost $400 to $800 an acre. Several acres have been planted to Eureka Lemons, Valencia Oranges and Marsh Grapefruit. These lands have been divided into tracts of 5, 10, 15, or 20 acres and are being sold at $750 to $1025 per acre. Many successful citrus growers and nurserymen have invested in the property, proving that the land is ideal for developing "citrus groves that pay." With the modern townsite, the completion of Turnbull Canyon Road and the merit of land, the value of property is sure to increase. The author lists Ed. W. Hopkins, the Pollard Brothers, The McMillan Brothers, H.M. Jordan, John R. King, and T.G. Challoner as purchasers of land in North Whittier Heights. He encourages E.J. Tomlinson to contact these people, as well as the Los Angeles Realty Board, Chamber of Commerce and any bank, to learn of the merit of the land as well as the companies reputation. The author closes the letter by offering to take Mr. Tomlinson out to the property, should he be in the area, and to provide any additional information.
The pages have been glued together across the top, there is discoloration on the top and right side, and there are holes in the top left corner from a straight pin. Page 1 (a) has an acid burn along the top. Page 2 (b) has no further damage. This object is in good condition overall.Lexicon
