Description

A letter from an unknown author to Edward Lichliter in Ogden, Utah. 1 May 1914. A typed, edited letter, in response to a letter (object number 2017.41.1.449) regarding North Whittier Heights. The cost of unplanted land is $400 to $800 per acre, with cheaper land being on rolling hills and needing more leveling before planting. For level land, it costs $700 to $750 and acre. If Edward Lichliter wants the land planted, it will be an extra $175 per acre. Enclosed is an approximate figure if Mr. Lichliter was to buy 5 acres at $700 an acre as well as the cost to plant to trees and the cost to care for the trees for up to 5 years. The author is also enclosing the cost of 5 acres already planted as well as articles on production values. The author will mail under a separate cover, a map of the tracts as subdivided and a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the property. There are a few 5 and 10 acre tracts which were planted to Valencia Oranges in the spring of 1913, these cost $750 to $1025 per acre. The author invites Mr. Lichliter to write the Chamber of Commerce, Realty Board, Los Angeles Trust and Savings Bank, or the Whittier Board of Trade regarding the reliability of the owners and agents. The author closes the letter by inviting Mr. Lichliter out to see the property should he come to California. There are several corrections in pencil, with sentences added and paragraphs removed. There are holes in the top left corner from a straight pin, rust damage in the top left corner, water damage in the top right corner, and the back has an acid burn on the top and right side. This object is in fair condition overall.
