Description

A letter from an unknown author to Errett Allen in Lancaster, California. 6 October 1914. A typed, 2 page letter responding to a letter (object number 2017.41.1.619 requesting information on North Whittier Heights. There is unplanted land, which the company will plant to oranges, lemons, grapefruit, avocado or walnuts at a minium cost, or 1 year old orchards can be purchased. The author writes that he will care for any orchard for $25 to $35 per acre, depending on the age of the orchard. This cost does not include the cost of water needed to care for such orchards. Planted groves cost $750 to $1025 per acre and unplanted land costs $450 to $800 an acre, with about $125 per acre to prepare the land for planting. With the completion of Turnbull Canyon Road and the completion of a townsite, they are expecting the demand for and value of North Whittier Heights to increase. Some of the most successful citrus men have invested in the property which shows the merit of the land. The author then provides a list of people who have invested, allowing Mr. Allen to contact them regarding the merit of the land and reputation of the company. The author closes the letter with an invitation to come see the property should he be interested. The pages have been glued together in the top left corner, discoloration on the top and right sides, folds in the bottom right corner, and water damage in the bottom right corner. Page 1 also has a small tear on the bottom right. This object is in fair condition overall.
