Description

A letter from an unknown author to H.A. Cooper in Fresno, California. 15 January 1914. A typed, 2 page draft letter responding to a request from Mrs. Belle Brandel (object number 2017.41.1.295) to send information on North Whittier Heights to H.A. Cooper. The author will mail, under a separate cover, a descriptive folder. This will include a map of the tracts as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the location of the property, and articles on the soil, water and climatic conditions of the holdings. Unplanted land has been subdivided into tracts of 2 to 50 acres and cost $400 to $800 an acre. Some of the land has been planted to Eureka Lemons, Valencia Oranges, and Marsh Seedless Grapefruit. These young orchards can be bought in tracts of 5, 10, 15, and 20 acres at a cost of $750 to $975 an acre. The owners of North Whittier Heights plan on increasing the cost of the young groves as of the 1st of February, making now the time to buy. Some of the most successful lemon and orange growers have invested at North Whittier Heights, which shows the success of the land. With the building of a townsite, the completion of a road connecting Whittier and Pomona Boulevards, as well as the ability for the land to produce, the value of this land will only increase. The author closes the letter by inviting H.A. Cooper out to see the property when he comes to visit Los Angeles. The pages (a and b) are glued together along the top, have a crease in the bottom right corner, have stains along the bottom, and discoloration on the right side. Page 1 also has creases in the top left. This object is in good condition overall.
