A letter from an unknown author to Joel E. Whitley in Great Falls, Montana. 18 May 1914.
A typed, 2 page letter in response to a letter (object number 2017.41.1.493) requesting information on North Whittier Heights and 10 acres of walnut land. The author writes that they are selling walnut land in 5 to 50 acre tracts that cost $700 to $735 per acre. There are also about 150 acres of soft shelled walnut groves which are being sold in 5, 10, 15, and 20 acre tracts at $700 to $750 an acre. Terms of sale are 1/5 down, 1/5 in 2 years and the balance i 5 years. California produces about $3.5 million worth of walnuts each year and the profit is only going to go up. The author is sure that soon , walnut groves will be selling for $2000 an acre. George S. Weinshank and Professor Smith, both well known growers of walnuts, have bought in North Whittier Heights. Since trees are set 50 feet apart, most growers plant vegetables or deciduous fruits between the trees. The author invites Joel E. Whitley to write Mr. Weinshank regarding the merit of the land. A descriptive folder will be mailed under a separate cover. This will include a map of the tracts as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the property. The author closes the letter by inviting Mr. Whitley out to see the property when he comes to Los Angeles.
The pages are glued in the top left corner, a fold of the bottom left corner, folds in the top left corner, and browning of pages. The second page has a tear on the left side and possible rodent damage in the bottom right corner. This object is in fair condition overall.Lexicon
