Description

A letter from an unknown author to L. Brooks in San Bernardino, California. 5 March 1914. A typed, 2 page letter in response to a letter (object number 2017.41.1.377) written by L. Brooks regarding his interest in Whittier property. The 22 acres which the company advertised costs $450 per acre and is located in the North Whittier Heights subdivision. The land is both high-class citrus or avocado orchard land and a scenic location for a country home. They have other properties on this tract which cost between $400 and $800 an acre. Around 400 acres have been set to citrus trees and possibly much more land will be planted to citrus and avocados in the present season. Edwin Hart, F.W. Wright, Joe Cole and Mr. Spinks are planting to avocados this season and if Mr. Brooks does not have trees yet, they will be able to supply a limited number at a moderate price. The author also writes that Mr. Ed. Hopkins, the Pollard Brothers, the McMillan Brothers, H.M. Jordan, C.H. Hamburg, John R. King and George Weinshank, all well known citrus men and nurserymen, have bought land in North Whittier Heights which shows the merit of the land. The owners of the property do not take any kind of property as exchange but will sell on easy terms. The terms are 1/5 cash, 1/5 in 2 years and the balance in 5 years. The author closes the letter by inviting Mr. Brooks out to see the property. There is a post script stating that a descriptive folder will be mailed under a separate cover. The pages have been glued together in the top left corner, there is water damage in the top left, a fold and small tear on the bottom right corner, embrittlement of the bottom right corner, and discoloration on the top and right sides. This object is in fair condition overall.
