A letter from an unknown author to R.C. Allott in Pasadena, California. 24 January 1914.
A typed, 2 page letter in response to a letter (object number 2017.41.1.328) requesting information on North Whittier Heights orange and lemon land. The author will mail a descriptive folder under a different cover. The folder will include a map of the tracts as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the location of the property, and articles on the soil, water, and climatic conditions of the property. The property is subdivided into tracts of 2 to 50 acres with unplanted lands being sold at $400 to $800 an acre. Many acres have been planted to Eureka Lemons, Valencia Oranges, and Marsh Grapefruits. These young orchards have been divided into tracts of 5, 10, 15, and 20 acres and are being sold at $750 to $975 an acre. The owners of North Whittier Heights plan to raise the price of planted land on the 1st of February. Some of the most successful orange and lemon growers have bought land in North Whittier Heights which show the merit of the land. A modern townsite, a new road connecting Whittier and Pomona Boulevards, and the of the land to produce will cause the value of the land to go up. The author closes the letter with hopes to take Mr. Allott out to see the land.
The pages have been glued together in the top left corner, and discoloration on the top and right side. Page 1 (a) has a small tear on the left side, water damage on the bottom, embrittlement along the bottom, and pieces missing. Page 2 (b) has a tear on the bottom right, tears on the right side, rodent damage on the right side, creases on the bottom right corner, and embrittlement.
