Description

A letter from an unknown author to William B. Lundie in Weehawken, New Jersey. 23 January 1914. A typed letter in response to a letter (object number 2017.41.1.306) asking for information on land between Los Angeles and San Diego. The author recommends North Whittier Heights subdivision as a good investment for William B. Lunate. The author writes that people who do not know the prices or land in Southern California would consider the cost high, but when taking into consideration the value of the land, the cost is actually pretty cheap. Planted and unplanted lands are being sold in tracts of 5 acres and up. Unplanted land in this subdivision, with water rights and road improvements, costs $400 to $800 an acre, where planted land costs $750 to $975 an acre. There is also a belt of country between Los Angeles and San Diego, where one can buy land, without water development, at $25 to $150 an acre. The author asks for information as to what type of land Mr. Lundie is looking for and how much he is wanting to spend so the author could get him quotes for such land. The author will send a descriptive folder of North Whittier Heights under a separate cover letter. This will incluse a map of the tracts as subdivided, a map of Southern California which shows the exact location of the subdivision, and articles on the soil, water, climatic conditions and merit of the North Whittier Heights property. The author closes the letter with hopes to hear from him soon regarding the type of land that he would like to buy. There are wrinkles in the bottom left corner, a fold in the bottom left corner, crease along the bottom, and discoloration on the top and right side. This object is in good condition overall.
