Description

A letter from August Langenberger to William Workman, 8 March 1870. The missive concerned the latter's desire, from a letter to the former, to sell stock in the Anaheim Landing Lighter Company, based in the port at what is now Seal Beach, and makes reference to the efforts of the competing "Banning & Co to freeze us out." He noted that "a few hundred Dollars is a small object to you" and asked Workman to "not help our enemy to put a wedge in our body' by selling stock, which could not then get 75% of its par value. Langenberger added that, without Workman and John Forster of San Juan Capistrano, "our Lighter Co. would not exist anymore." Lastly, Langenberger told Workman he wished he could go with him to Europe, but for the economy. With small stains, light soiling and creases, the condition is good.
