Description
A letter from Grover T. Russell in Los Angeles, California to Alphonso More in Whittier, California. 9 May 1914.
A typed draft letter on letter head from the Whittier Extension Company. The letter is a reply to a letter (object number 2017.41.1.470) requesting an exchange of a 10 acre orange grove for Mrs. Scharenberg's property in North Whittier Heights. Grover T. Russell talked to Mrs. Scharenberg and she is not interested in exchanging her North Whittier Heights property for a large orange grove. She will sell her lot 57 for $4,000 on a cash basis or possibly exchange her equity for clear lots in Los Angeles or Whittier. There are corrections in pen throughout the letter.
Alphonso Moore wrote a response in pencil at the bottom of the page. He writes that he has his Family Theater in Whittier, which is clear, that he would be willing to trade for Mrs. Scharenberg's equity in lot 48. He asks $1,500 for the place and states she can make a little money every day there.
The company name and address are in the top center of the page. It reads "Whittier Extension Company / Owners of / 'North Whittier Heights' / Offices 917-923 Union Oil Bldg. / Los Angeles, Cal." The top left corner lists Edwin G. Hart as Managing Agent and the top right corner gives the phone numbers of Sunset Main 2606 and Home 10421.
There are heavy creases from the letter being folded, rust damage in the top left corner, browning on the right side, and the back has rust damage in the top right corner and abrasion damage along the folds. This object is in fair condition overall.
