A letter from J. M. C. Marble to Richard Smith, 26 November 1888. Written on the letterhead of the Los Angeles, Utah and Atlantic Railroad Company by its president, the letter is hard to read because of the handwriting style. Marble spoke of the recent incorporation of the company, created to build a line from the harbor at San Pedro to the eastern boundary of the state in Inyo County. Marble spoke of the desire of the firm to obtain land on the east side of the Los Angeles River through the city, including the Boyle Heights neighborhood. Specific plans for the road at the harbor are also mentioned. Funding mechanisms are discussed, as well. A full transcription needs to be done and it will be difficult because of the writing. Woth folds, a few stains, and some soiling, the overall condition is good.
