Description

A letter from Los Angeles Police Chief C. E. Sebastian to W. S. Kelley, police chief of Oxnard, 24 May 1912. The message notified Kelley that a man wanted in Oxnard was seen in Los Angeles and that the department would keep an eye out for the forgery suspect. Sebastian, born in Missouri in 1873, was once a conductor for the Los Angeles Railway Company, joined the LAPD about 1900, was promoted to sergeant by 1907 and was chief from 1911 to 1915. He then served as Los Angeles mayor in 1915-16, but resigned over correspondence with a woman and was an investigator prior to his 1929 death. With some stains, acidic staining, original folds, and soiling, the overall condition is fair.
