Description

A letter from Thomas Van Deusen to William Workman, 5 October 1856. The missive replied to Workman's note earlier that day and explained that he had no idea why a cow with Workman's brand "was found tied to my rope" and said "were my life to pay the penalty" he could not understand what happened. Van Deusen, a resident of San Gabriel, pledged to bring the malefactor to justice and ended saying "if you see fit to prosecute . . . I shall suffer innocently." With creases, minor tears, and some discoloration, the condition is good.
