Description

A letter from unknown author to Wm. S. Emery in New York City, New York. 29 July 1916. A three page, typed letter. The author confirms that Mr. Emery's letter regarding avocado farming in California (Object ID: 2017.41.1.1140) has been received. The author gives his opinion on the future of California's avocado industry and provides general information about growing conditions. The author states that the prices of avocado orchards in the North Whittier Heights tract range from $350 to $800 per acre and that Mr. Emery's sister visted a 23.6 acre avocado grove valued at $12,500. The author describes the terms of sale for these properties, and also discusses some varieties of avocados, such as the Harmon variety. The author suggests that Mr. Emery can refer to entities such as the First National Bank of Los Angeles to learn about the merits of the properties, and offers to provide more information at his request. With adhesive in the top left corners which is holding the document together, minor acid burns, minor foxing, and ink stains, the object is in good condition overall.
