Description

A letter in French on Pico House letterhead, Los Angeles, 22 October 1873. The letterhead has the hotel name, proprietor Charles Knowlton's name, city, and the numbers "18" for the year printed. The three-page letter is from singer Gaston Gottschalk (brother of famed composer and pianist Louis Moreau Gottschalk) to his wife Louisette and needs to be translated, though there are references to the recent economic depression as well as to other cities and towns in California. There is little discernible wear and the condition is good.
