2013.435.1.1Description
A letter on the letterhead of Los Angeles Business College, 25 April 1901. The typed two-page missive is from vice-president E. K. Isaacs and is addressed to a former college student, Valencia Jones Dickens, and Isaacs puns that her wordplay was worthy of a "Dickens," as in famed British author Charles Dickens. He also mentions a college picnic planned for Rubio Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains above Pasadena, including a brass band at the canyon's resort pavilion. He also informed Dickens that the college was preparing a float for the La Fiesta de Los Angeles parade, held in May, and that President William McKinley, who attended the parade, was invited to ride on their float. Finally, Isaacs mentioned commencement on 24 June and hoped Dickens would have finished her education to be in the ceremony. The letterhead has an impressive vignette with the college name, an ink pen, books, bags of mone, and adding machine and other items. The names of Isaacs and president E. R. Shader and secretary I. N. Inskeep are also present. The dates of establishment (1882) and incorporation (1890) are found as well. With original folds, creases, and very light soiling, the condition is good overall.Lexicon
