Description

A deed of mortgage from John H. Temple to Antonia Margarita Workman de Temple, 13 September 1880. This looks to be a copy and concerns the mortgaging for $1,000 of 44 acres of the Rancho Potrero de Felipe Lugo, where Temple had his home and walnut ranch and 150 acres of the "Mill Tract" around the Workman Mill on Rancho La Puente--both of which properties she gave to her son. The documents noted that the witness was William W. Jenkins, a family friend then involved with the F.P.F. Temple estate and there is reference to the original notarized by J.J. Warner. Being written in pencil, some of the writing has smeared or been partially erased, so it needs to be stored in mylar. There are dog-eared corners, soiling and folds, so the condition is fair.
