Description
A negative of the west entrance to the Pacific Branch Home, Sawtelle, Los Angeles, 1925. The image shows a large two-story with full attic residence in the distance, while in the foreground is part of an iron fence and two pillars, one with crossed swords and stacked cannon balls atop it and the other reading "Pacific Branch Home" and having representations of three rifles in a pyramid form atop it. A man stands next to the latter and also of note are some trees near these pillars, a power pole for the Pacific Electric Railway line, another structure to the left, and much landscaping in the background. At one margin is an inscription: "Westgate Entrance, Home, Sawtelle, 1925." The home for disabled former soldiers opened in 1888 and the site, including a hospital and cemetery is now part of the federal Veterans Administration department. The condition appears good.
