Description

A pair of eyeglasses (a) and case (b) from the California Optical Company, San Francisco, ca. 1890s. The glasses have a thin gold wire-rim with curving ear hooks and the glass has some scratches on it. The leather case has a purple velvet liner and a gold cartouche on the bottom features a grizzly bear and the company name and address in a banner. The company was formed in 1888, but the glasses have the appearance of being early in the history of the firm. The case has abrasions, scratches and wear, so the overall condition of the item is fair.
