Description

A pamphlet advertising the Egan Theatre, Los Angeles, ca. 1926. The item's front has a title, "Instructions for Backseat Drivers" and the theatre name and location, as well as that of the printer. The inside only contains the words "Shut Up!" On the reverse is advertising for the theater's feature play, "White Collars" in its "8th Great Month" and giving ticket prices. "White Collars" opened at the theater in 1925 and ran for about a year. The Egan, founded by a drama teacher of that name and opened in the early 1910s, was changed to the Musart in 1933 and continued in operation until the 1950s, serving an black clientele in those years. It closed at an unknown date and was demolished. The site, at the southeast corner of Figueroa and Pico, across the Los Angeles Convention Center, is a residential complex. With some edge rubbing and light soiling, the condition is good.
