2021.3.2.15Description
A pamphlet for the Rowland Puente Oil Company, ca. 1900. The firm, with Bernard F. Rowland as president, was organized at the end of July 1900 with capital stock of $500,000 with a half-million shares at $1 each, though 30,000 shares were marketed at 10 cents each (see item .14 for a receipt of some of this stock sold to Francisca Valenzuela, biological mother of Laura González.) The item noted the firm leased 330 acres near the Puente Oil Company of Rowland's uncle, William, and that oil was found on 10 September on the latter property. On two panels is a panoramic view of the area from the north with indicators of the Puente, New England and Rowland Puente company wells in the hills. With a large tear in the center panel, some stains, creases and light soiling, the condition is poor.Lexicon
