2013.560.1.1Description
A black and white panoramic photo of what is assumed to be the Los Angeles Aqueduct in eastern California, West Coast Art Company, Los Angeles, 1910. The image shows a raised concrete channel filled with water at the right and there are some men and women standing on the edge and on rocks above the channel. A river, presumably the Owens, runs to the center with a short waterfall flowing from a hydroelectric generating dam at the left. Behind the river is a small town with a "Boston General Store," a pool hall, houses, barns, a water tank and other structures. At the lower left is the number "818," the photographer's name and the copyright date. On the reverse is the photographer's stamp, photo number, and price for reprints at $1.50. West Coast Art Company did document the construction of the aqueduct, as found in Department of Water Power and Los Angeles Times web sites. With an abrasion and staining at the bottom, soiling, warping, small stains and rubbing, the overall condition is good.
