2012.456.1.1Description
A panoramic photograph of Laguna Grammar School, Bell Gardens, California. 1921. The view is of dozens of students and teachers posed near the one-story frame building with a protruding front entrance and a central bell tower. To the left is a small frame house, a flag pole, and some tall trees, perhaps eucalyptus. The students include Caucasian, Latino and Asian students, while the women at the far upper right of the group are White. On the reverse are ink inscriptions identifying the school, date and location of Gage and Garfield avenues in "Laguna, Calif," and the site is a Southern California Edison power plant. Other inscriptions identify a teacher, the principal, and a few students including Vincent Lugo, presumably from the family that owned the Rancho San Antonio in the area from about 1810. With some stains at the top margin, soiling, abrasions along the edges, and heavy warping, the overall condition is fair to poor.
