Description

A personal letter, 27 April 1894, Edanem Terrace, San Gabriel sent to Peoria, Illinois. Edanem Terrace was run by Mrs. E. H. Lamme. Letter was written by Elizabeth (Isabelle) Allen, a singer in Indiana, for her sister Emily Stringham Allen (married name McCulloch), who was too ill to write to her betrothed, Edward Dickinson McCulloch. Elizabeth's presence at Edanem Terrace is also mentioned in the "Los Angeles Herald," 17 September 1892. The letter compares the California climate to that of Peoria. It also mentions Sousa's Band performing in Los Angeles. The letter includes a pressed flower, which stained the first page, an envelope, a folio sheet and a single sheet. The letter is in poor condition, torn at the folds of all pages. Pressed flower is fragmented, minor surface soiling throughout.
