A photograph, Downey Fruit Market, 1926. A label on the reverse side describes it as Downey's first supermarket. The one story building had an awning covering the front. A sign is above the awning advertising the sale of fresh fruits, vegetables, cider, soft drinks, cigars and tobacco. A man in a cap stands to the left in front. Several fruit displays are visible underneath the awning. Partially visible is an advertisment for Lucky Strike with the image of a baseball player mid swing. The photograph is in fair condition with minor silvering, moderate surface soiling and warping.
