2008.396.1.1Description
A pin with images of Henry T. Gage and Jacob H. Neff, Republican candidates for California governor and lieutenant governor, respectively, 1898. The item has the men's images surrounded by their names, flanked by red and blue stars, at the top, and an American flag bow-tie at the bottom. On the underside is a printed paper section giving the name and address of the seller and the name, city, and patent dates for the manufacturer. Gage, a Michigan native and resident of Los Angeles County from 1874 and a mining magnate in the Acton area, was married to Francisca Rains, a Lugo descendant, and occupied a Lugo adobe that was started in 1795 in present Bell Gardens. Neff was a mine owner from Placer County in northern California. The two won election and served one term from 1899 to 1903. With some stains and tarnish to the metal, the condition is good.Lexicon
